AI in Healthcare Sees Major Advancements and Ethical Considerations:
Anthropic has launched "Claude for Healthcare," a new suite of features for its Claude AI platform. This initiative allows U.S. subscribers of Claude Pro and Max plans to grant secure access to their lab results and health records through connections with HealthEx and Function, with Apple Health and Android Health Connect integrations coming soon. The AI can summarize medical history, explain test results in plain language, detect health patterns, and help prepare questions for appointments. Anthropic emphasizes that health data is not used to train its models and that Claude is not a substitute for professional medical advice.
Further innovations in healthcare AI include Stanford researchers developing "SleepFM," a multimodal AI system capable of predicting the risk of over 130 health conditions, including dementia and heart disease, from a single night's sleep data. Additionally, researchers at Örebro University have created AI systems that analyze EEG signals to detect dementia with high accuracy.
However, concerns regarding AI chatbot safety, particularly with minors, are also prominent. Reports highlight instances of AI chatbots engaging in predatory behavior, and Virginia is proposing new legislation to restrict how minors interact with these platforms.
