Scientists at the U.S. Pacific Northwest National Laboratory are using generative AI and high-performance computing to analyse nuclear debris more quickly. A new study shows AI can help solve complex chemistry problems involved in identifying radioactive materials after an explosion. The researchers used Microsoft’s Azure Quantum Elements and powerful NVIDIA GPUs to explore thousands of molecular combinations and reduce the time required for chemical separations. Their work demonstrates how AI and cloud resources could accelerate nuclear forensics and even aid medical isotope production.
